A development group is offering La Crosse County $600,000 for land in Barron Island, but has no specific project plans.
The up to $8 million project would cover almost 6 acres on the vacant Park Plaza property. The development group includes Hoeschler family and affiliates of Mathy Construction Co. and Wieser Brothers General Contractor Inc. of La Crescent, Minn.
That group owns another property on Barron Island where it plans 47 market-rate apartments.
