Top Mountain Trail (2)

West-to-southwest vista from the summit of Naked Mountain, Union County, along the Top Mountain Trail in Bald Eagle State Forest.

White Deer Creek, heavily shaded with conifers, flows through the broad mountain valley. From this viewpoint, the conifers largely trace the course of the creek. The yellows, oranges, and reds of the deciduous trees greatly accentuate the deep, dark-green canopy of hemlocks, pines, and spruces.

Nittany Mountain, with its many stream-carved gaps, rises to the north (right); Naked Mountain continues to the south (left). Other mountains fade into the distance.

I really like this photo. It's rare to see a valley in Pennsylvania that hasn't been cleared for farming.
