Regional officials look to upgrade area highways, make Miami Valley more bikable

Tens of millions in construction projects have been proposed to upgrade Dayton highways and make biking easier across the region.

The latest new proposals come via submissions to Dayton Development Coalition's Priority Development and Advocacy Committee, a group of business and community leaders that collects and prioritizes requests for federal funding that supports local projects. It then advocates for those projects with the intention of making the Dayton region speak with one voice in seeking federal money.

Chief among them have been long-standing proposals to upgrade exits at Interstate 675, including the Wilmington Pike interchange, which officials say needs to be upgraded to handle more traffic as the Cornerstone development adds more traffic.

Also proposed has been several bike lines, including a new extension around Springboro to connect the town to the bike trails along the Great Miami River, and bridges in Troy to make foot traffic easier for local attractions.

The requests will be evaluated and prioritized by the PDAC committee. Some have been requested for several years, but the requests indicate potential spots where major transportation improvements could take place.
