Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters wants to hang onto the tiger tail (plus a separate suit and head) that one of nine Greenpeace activists wore while hanging protest banners from the side of Procter & Gamble's headquarters in Cincinnati last spring.

The tiger attire should be forfeited along with more than 50 other "tools used to commit the crime" the environmental activists had when they simply walked into the heavily guarded building, according to a Dec. 3 filing in Common Pleas Court.

Cincinnati police seized the items after arresting the protesters March 4. The court filing noted the property was used during an act that could be prosecuted for felony criminal offenses. The activists allegedly committed $17,000 in damage when they rappelled down the side of P&G's 17-story twin towers from 12th floor balconies. The burglary and vandalism charges that resulted would qualify the property for forfeiture.

However, I reported Dec. 4 that the prosecutor has offered to allow eight of the activists to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of trespassing ( one of the original nine died Oct. 6 of an undisclosed cause). If the protesters plead to the lesser charge as expected during a Dec. 12 hearing, Deters likely will have to give back what the property identified as "contraband."

Greenpeace claims that palm oil used in Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) brands is connected to the deforestation of an area of Indonesia that is home to endangered Sumatran tigers. Here's the complete list of what was taken from the Greenpeace protesters:
