A patient that had been suspected of Ebola has been cleared of the disease and released from Massachusetts General Hospital.

The patient was being monitored by the Boston Public Health Commission due to his recent travel to Liberia, and was brought to the hospital on Tuesday after he reported having a fever.

Ebola fears were partially alleviated on Wednesday when tests came back negative for Ebola, but positive for malaria. The patient is not contagious with malaria.

According to a memo released to hospital staff, the patient is responding well to anti-malaria treatment, and has had no fever or other symptoms for the past 24 hours, clearing him of having Ebola.

"We have carefully followed the protocols established by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The patient presents no risk to family, friends, colleagues or the public," the hospital said in a memo.

Hospital officials said the experience gave them the opportunity to witness firsthand how over $1 million in preparations would play out in actuality.

"We are very proud of the way the MGH community has responded," hospital staff said in the memo.
