The Rome Braves unveiled a new alternate logo Dec. 11.

The Class-A minor league affiliate of the Atlanta Braves said the new logo features a Roman soldier's helmet on a baseball with the letter "R" on the front. The helmet was used by the military of ancient Rome from 753 BC through AD 476 and pays tribute to the name of the team's hometown of Rome, Ga. with a red, blue, and gray color scheme.

"The color combination adds to the white, gray and red jerseys the team currently wears," the team said.

The logo was designed by Chris Henwood.

Rome opens the 2015 season on April 9 against the Asheville Tourists.
