Texas and North Dakota continue to lead the nation in oil production, producing nearly half the oil in the country.
Texas produced more than 3 million barrels per day in June, or 35 percent of the crude oil in the country. Much of the growth in production comes from the Eagle Ford Shale and Permian Basin.

North Dakota is producing nearly 1.1 million barrels per day, just three months after that state broke through the 1 million barrel mark. The major production there comes from the Bakken Shale and Three Forks formation.
The U.S. produced 8.5 million barrels per day, the most since 1986.
