You know what they say...you can't be too careful!

Doomsday "prepper" Shane Connor says people need to be ready.

"I think everybody's kind of figured out with Iran and North Korea and the nuclear saber rattling that it's probably gonna be something nuclear if not a Fukushima happening closer to home. We're probably gonna have some nuclear problems," Connor said.

Connor owns KI4U, a company out of Gonzales that specializes in re-calibrating radiation detection equipment. But they also sell big yellow fallout shelters.

"Our primary story is the good news about nuclear destruction. Now as perverse as that sounds, the good news is...and we have all this information free on the website, it really is survivable for the overwhelming majority of people that will be affected. Not right at ground zero, but the majority will be further away, the fallout for hundreds of miles," Connor said.

The yellow-submarine-looking fallout shelters come in all shapes in sizes.

Smaller ones that double as storm shelters will only set you back a few thousand bucks.

The big "Atlas" shelter with the all of the bells and whistles inside will run you anywhere from $30,000 to $60,000.

Connor says when a disaster happens, people will go crazy.

"It's people rioting, looting, panicking because they haven't prepared. And you want to have some distance between you and people that haven't prepared," Connor said.

And he says the fears aren't all nuclear. Economic disaster is another reason people are buying.

And he says people have been buying!

"I mean the camouflage-clad survivalist of 20 or 30 years ago, he's been largely outnumbered by the doctors and lawyers and regular people that see that it's prudent to be prepared," he said.

Connor says at KI4U they sell all of the stuff we hope and pray we'll never have to use.

"You know I've got kids. I hope none of this stuff ever happens. But I hope even more, heaven forbid, if it does that I'm ready to protect them," Connor said.

Connor wouldn't go into detail about what he does to stay safe...he says it's a secret.
