Find and view a map

Open Maps Gallery (at maps.google.com/gallery) to explore our collection of content. Use the search box to find a map or browse to find content in the gallery.

  • See What’s hot and browse by what’s trending, with choices from the community (Top Maps) as well as our team (Staff Picks). This tab will appear by default on the gallery homepage.
  • Click Explore to see the content grouped by category (e.g. imagery, crisis, recreation).

Get details about a map

Click a thumbnail or the map title to get more details about the map. On the details page, you can view information about the map:

  • Description
  • Attribution
  • Ratings
  • Publisher
  • Category
  • Date submitted
  • Restrictions

View and explore a map

To dive into the map viewer, click View fullscreen. There, you can interact with the map (zoom, hide/show layers, etc.). Or, click View in Google Earth to see the map on a virtual globe with satellite imagery.

Share or embed a map

Find something great and want to share it with others? You can share or embed a map from Maps Gallery. Make sure you understand the usage restrictions on the map before continuing.

Share a map

  1. Open Maps Gallery.
  2. Select a map to open the map details page.
  3. Click Share beneath the map.
  4. Choose how you want to share:
    • URL link (then copy and paste into email, chat window, etc.)
    • Google+

Embed a map on a website or blog

  1. Open Maps Gallery.
  2. Select a map to open the map details page.
  3. Click the Embed link in the navigation bar underneath the map.
  4. Copy the code (similar to YouTube) that appears in the menu below to embed the map.
  5. Paste the code onto your webpage or blog.

Usage restrictions for content in the Maps Gallery

Content available in Google Maps Gallery may have publisher-specified usage restrictions.

To find the usage restrictions:

  1. Open Maps Gallery.
  2. Find a specific map, then open the content details page.
  3. Beside "Restrictions," see the usage restrictions and user license that the map owner has chosen.

Please abide by these restrictions when using the content.

Usage restrictions

No restrictions on use: The map can be used for any purpose, including to create derivative works (works based off the original).

Attribution: Attribution is required. This means that you need to Mention the map publisher (s) when sharing, embedding, or otherwise using the map content (eg, "Corinna created this map").

Non-commercial: The map can be used for any non-commercial purpose.

Share-alike: Any derivative works must be published with the usage restrictions same as the original work.

End User License Agreement: If visible, use of the content is also governed by the publisher's End User License Agreement (EULA). We allow publishers to link content to their own. If you'd like to use a publisher's content, make sure that you comply with the publisher's agreement. If the publisher's EULA conflicts with either the other stated usage restrictions or the Google terms of service or policies, those will take precedence over the publisher's EULA.

Publish your My Map to Maps Gallery

If you've created a custom map with My Maps or Maps Engine, you publish your map to share with the world on Maps Gallery.
