Railroad Commission Presents Oct. 31 Austin Fleet Seminar on How to Fuel Up With Natural Gas, Save Money & Reduce Emissions

AUSTIN –– The Texas Railroad Commission—the state’s top energy agency—invites central Texas fleet managers to learn more about vehicles fueled by natural gas—one of Texas’ top, abundant domestic energy resources. Fleet managers will learn how they can save money on fuel costs and reduce vehicle emissions by using natural gas-fueled vehicles.

“Thanks to technological advancements like hydraulic fracturing, our state and nation are enjoying an abundance of inexpensive natural gas,” said Chairman Barry T. Smitherman. “In fact, Texas is experiencing an unprecedented rate of natural gas production at some 7.2 trillion cubic feet a year, and this domestic resource will help move us closer to energy independence as a nation.”

Commissioner David Porter said, “Moving more of our vehicles, such as fleets, toward natural gas, is a step that I have long advocated to help reduce our nation’s reliance on foreign energy resources. This seminar is a great opportunity for local fleet managers to relate their first-hand experiences with running natural gas fleets. Seminar participants will also learn about the latest breakthroughs in home refueling for natural gas vehicles.”

Commission Buddy Garcia said, “As a former commissioner at our state’s top environmental agency, I know first-hand the importance reducing emissions in Texas. And fortunately, there are a variety of natural gas vehicles available to help reduce emissions from passenger sedans to garbage trucks to 18-wheelers. Fleet managers also will be able to ride in and drive these vehicles at our seminar.”
