APRIL PERMITS TO DRILL
The Commission issued a total of 2,021 original drilling permits in April 2012 compared to 2,011 in April 2011. The April total included 1,836 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 61 to re-enter existing well bores, and 124 for re-completions. Permits issued in April 2012 included 646 oil, 192 gas, 1,094 oil and gas, 73 injection, two service and 14 other permits.
MARCH CRUDE OIL PRODUCTION
Texas preliminary March 2012 crude oil production averaged 1,182,251 barrels daily, up from the 969,007 barrels daily average of March 2011.
The preliminary Texas crude oil production figure for March 2012 is 36,649,796 barrels, up from 30,039,224 barrels reported during March 2011.
APRIL OIL AND GAS COMPLETIONS
In April 2012, operators reported 780 oil, 360 gas, 54 injection and zero other completions compared to 597 oil, 265 gas, 23 injection and zero other completions in April 2011.
Total well completions for 2012 year to date are 4,991 up from 3,033 recorded during the same period in 2011.
Operators reported 1,162 holes plugged and three dry holes in April 2012 compared to 325 holes plugged and zero dry holes in April 2011.
MARCH NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
Texas oil and gas wells produced 539,443,341 Mcf (thousand cubic feet) of gas based upon preliminary production figures for March 2012 down from the March 2011 preliminary gas production total of 564,450,477 Mcf.
Texas production in March 2012 came from 142,031 oil wells and 91,396 gas wells.
