FEBRUARY PERMITS TO DRILL

The Commission issued a total of 1,696 original drilling permits in February 2011 compared to 1,403 in February 2010.  The February total included 1,506 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 48 to re-enter existing well bores, and 142 for re-completions.  Permits issued in February 2011 included 478 oil, 205 gas, 930 oil and gas, 54 injection, zero service and 29 other permits.

JANUARY CRUDE OIL PRODUCTION

Texas preliminary January 2010 crude oil production averaged 962,338 barrels daily, up from the 900,505 barrels daily average of January 2010.

The preliminary Texas crude oil production figure for January 2010 is 29,832,480 barrels, up from 27,915,665 barrels reported during January 2010.

FEBRUARY OIL AND GAS COMPLETIONS

In February 2011, operators reported 262 oil, 289 gas, 24 injection and two other completions compared to 410 oil, 435 gas, 54 injection and two other completions during February 2010.

Total well completions for 2011 year to date are 1,258 down from 1,664 recorded during the same period in 2010.

JANUARY NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION

Texas oil and gas wells produced 552,869,515 Mcf (thousand cubic feet) of gas based upon preliminary production figures for January 2011 down from the January 2010 preliminary gas production total of 581,137,329 Mcf.

Texas production in January 2011 came from 145,857 oil wells and 93,689 gas wells.
