FEBRUARY PERMITS TO DRILL
The Commission issued a total of 1,798 original drilling permits in February 2012 compared to 1,696 in February 2011. The February total included 1,658 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 23 to re-enter existing well bores, and 117 for re-completions. Permits issued in February 2012 included 563 oil, 158 gas, 1,026 oil and gas, 28 injection, zero service and 23 other permits.
JANUARY CRUDE OIL PRODUCTION
Texas preliminary January 2012 crude oil production averaged 1,064,917 barrels daily, up from the 962,338 barrels daily average of January 2011.
The preliminary Texas crude oil production figure for January 2012 is 33,012,455 barrels, up from 29,832,480 barrels reported during January 2011.
FEBRUARY OIL AND GAS COMPLETIONS
In February 2012, operators reported 869 oil, 388 gas, 51 injection and one other completion compared to 262 oil, 289 gas, 24 injection and two other completions in February 2011.
Total well completions for 2012 year to date are 2,329 up from 1,258 recorded during the same period in 2011.
Operators reported 426 holes plugged and zero dry holes in February 2012 compared to 451 holes plugged and zero dry holes in February 2011.
JANUARY NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
Texas oil and gas wells produced 533,503,061 Mcf (thousand cubic feet) of gas based upon preliminary production figures for January 2012 down from the January 2011 preliminary gas production total of 552,869,515 Mcf.
Texas production in January 2012 came from 139,961 oil wells and 90,670 gas wells.
