DECEMBER PERMITS TO DRILL
The Commission issued a total of 1,308 original drilling permits in December 2009 compared to 1,226 in December 2008. The December total included 1,140 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 24 to re-enter existing well bores, and 144 for re-completions. Permits issued in December 2009 included 397 oil, 246 gas, 607 oil and gas, 52 injection, one service and five other permits.
NOVEMBER CRUDE OIL PRODUCTION
Texas preliminary November 2009 crude oil production averaged 875,382 barrels daily, down from the 924,529 barrels daily average of November 2008.
The preliminary Texas crude oil production figure for November 2009 is 26,261,464 barrels, down from 27,735,876 barrels reported during November 2008.
DECEMBER OIL AND GAS COMPLETIONS
In December 2009, operators reported 310 oil, 360 gas, 29 injection and one other completion compared to 641 oil, 819 gas, 73 injection and one other completion during December 2008.
Total well completions for 2009 year to date are 15,279 down from 17,337 recorded during the same period in 2008.
Operators reported 458 holes plugged and one dry hole in December 2009 compared to 411 holes plugged and two dry holes in December 2008.
NOVEMBER NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
Texas oil and gas wells produced 558,071,779 Mcf (thousand cubic feet) of gas based upon preliminary production figures for November 2009, up from the November 2008 preliminary gas production total of 548,204,520 Mcf.
Texas production in November 2009 came from 128,794 oil and 88,703 gas wells.
