Railroad Commissioner David Porter Hails San Antonio's First Public Natural Gas Refueling Station

Texas Railroad Commissioner David Porter today helped welcome San Antonio’s first public natural gas refueling station, Clean Energy Flying J. Following the station’s grand opening, Porter hosted a workshop for area fleet vehicle managers on how to save money and increase the demand for natural gas in Texas. 

Porter said Clean Energy’s Flying J station, 1815 N. Foster Road, is the first natural gas refueling station available for public use in San Antonio, and two more public natural gas stations are set to open soon, which will provide the San Antonio area with three public refueling stations, in addition to two private stations.

“Natural gas vehicles mean good jobs for South Texas,” Porter said.  “The sale of natural gas as a transportation fuel is dramatically increasing in Texas, which leads to significant job growth.   In the past year, employment in the oil and gas sector grew more than five percent statewide, allowing Texas to continue to lead the nation in job creation.”

Area fleets like Central Freight, the City of San Antonio, HEB, Lewis Energy, United Foods and VIA Metropolitan Transit have already started transitioning their vehicles to natural gas.
