High school senior mastering art of sports video

LUCAS, Texas -- Some of the best video from the 2014 high school football season, was shot by a kid who is still in high school.

"I've seen hundreds of drone videos, but there's no really art to them," Garron Weeks said.

Weeks is a senior at Lovejoy High School, which has a top-notch television and newspaper program. Garron started getting serious about shooting and editing video at the start of this football season. His tools - a GoPro camera, a telescoping extender pole, a drone, and his eye for a good shot and enthusiasm for making memories.

"Remember how much fun the football games were, remember us winning state for the sixth time," he said. "It really was an awesome experience and I'm glad I was able to capture that."

Garron's videos are good -- not just "good for a high school kid" - but legitimately good.

"For furture students, it's probably bad because Garron has definitely set a bar of what I know high school students are capable of," Lovejoy journalism advisor Brian Higgins said.

Channel 8 sports watched Weeks work a couple of weeks ago at the volleyball state championships, when Lovejoy won another one. Garron shoots the game action, but also spends a lot of time with the student section -- and Lovejoy had a big one at this game. He will often hand his camera and extender to a student and let them get some video for him.

"I've always been interested in the art of movies and all that," Weeks said. "My dream is to make a movie one day, make an awesome movie."

High school sports fans in Texas know all about the talent in this state. Garron is a great talent off the field.
