- I work from home and listen to a lot of podcasts - I was listening t...o 1310 The Ticket and they got off topic. A staunch conservative (George Dunham) and ended up talking about the fracking ban in Denton for about ten minutes, T Boone Pickens, earthquakes, and how despite his conservative nature, he believes the fracking lobby is full of it. It is one of the most listened to radio stations in the country, so I thought it was cool to hear a Republican tell it as it is. I found it and have the link - check it: See More
- I interviewed Cathy McMullen, president of the Denton Drilling Aware...ness Group, on KBOO Community Radio yesterday. We talked about the recently passed anti-fracking initiative and the current lawsuits seeking to overturn the vote of the citizens of Denton. You can stream it live online or download it from KBOO's website. Many thanks to Cathy for talking with us! See More
"The message is loud and clear: American communities will exercise and defend their right to determine their own fracking fate."
DAG and Earthworks are represented by the Texas local government law firm Brown & Hofmeister, and attorneys from national environmental organizations, Earthjustice and the Natural Resources Defense Council, are seeking court permission to participate as co-counsel.
The 'boom' goes bust...
Thanks to everyone who came to the city council meeting tonight. Several residents asked the city to lobby in Austin, starting January 13th, to protect a Home Rule Municipalities right to regulate oil and gas development within their city limits. The city council and mayor told us Denton's plan is to actively lobby to protect our right to self govern, keep local control local and get big government out of our lives.
The council seemed quite impressed that people are aware of their lobbying effort and thanked us for participating in the process.
It is great to see Denton's residents taking an active part in their future and the city encouraging it.
Great things can happen when we work together.
SPOILER: industry treated Dentonites with contempt.
Rather than the normal tit-for-tat reporting on controversial issues, this The Guardian article really tells the story of how the fracking ban came to be from our president's perspective.
The city is listening to Denton voters now we need to make sure Austin is also listening.

Frack Free Denton created an event.
Come speak and help support our ban!
As we defend our ban, other Texas towns look to pass their own...
Why do we need a ban?
Here's one reason: state regulators (who claim the ban usurps their authority) refuse to protect people from pollution.
DAG is pleased to announce that we will join Earthworks and seek intervener status before the courts so that we can be co-defendants in the lawsuit filed against the city of Denton. The city is agreeable to DAG having this status.
We are very close to retaining national and local attorneys who are familiar with and successful in working on these type of cases.
We will make a more complete statement after the Thanksgiving Holiday.
...Sincerely yours, DAG Board
Wonder how you can help defend our fracking ban?
Go to this public meeting with Myra Crownover and tell her to stand up to big government bullies like Phil King who want to squash the ban.
Our fracking ban is under attack.
State Rep. Phil King, self-proclaimed enemy of “big government”, now wants to prevent Texas communities from deciding when, where, or even if they want to allow fracking.
TAKE ACTION: Tell Rep. King to respect democracy & our vote to ban fracking! http://bit.ly/1yT8icr
Something to consider as the TX state legislature gets set to begin session.
We need you now more than ever.

Reading the fracking ban vote into the official record.
With her column in the DRC, Railroad Commission chairwoman Christi Craddick had a chance to communicate to a very educated readership. But rather than talk up to our level and to the specifics of our situation, she talked down to us with platitudes and bureaucratese.
