Hurd, R-San Antonio, beat incumbent U.S. Rep. Pete Gallego, D-Alpine, in the 2014 race for Congressional District 23, which stretches from east El Paso to Bexar County and includes about 800 miles of the border and all or part of 29 counties. A San Antonio native and former CIA agent, Hurd lost a 2010 GOP primary bid for the CD-23 seat but this year defeated former U.S. Rep. Francisco “Quico” Canseco in the Republican primary. He has been a senior adviser with the cybersecurity firm FusionX since 2010 and graduated from Texas A&M University.
