The NFL said it will investigate whether the Dallas Cowboys concealed a rib injury to quarterback Tony Romo on its injury report leading up to Thursday's game against the Chicago Bears.

Romo suffered two small fractures in his back in late October, and told the NFL Network after Thursday's win against Chicago that those were nearly healed. But he said he's also been playing with a rib injury that has required him to get medical treatment and wear extra padding in games.

"We're looking into it," league spokesman Greg Aiello told USA TODAY Sports in an email.

The Cowboys have not previously disclosed a rib injury for Romo, though he has consistently been on the injury report because of his back. Romo has not practiced on most Wednesdays this season as part of his recovery from offseason back surgery that was not related to the October injury.

"It'll be nice when it's just about the back improving instead of all the other little junk," Romo said on the NFL Network set Thursday night.
