FRISCO — Three days have passed, and so far five applications for late night alcohol permits have been submitted to the City of Frisco.

Last week the city approved a measure that would let restaurants and bars serve alcohol until 2 a.m. Closing time had previously been set for midnight six days a week and 1 a.m. on Saturday.

City Council members say the city lost out on a lot of revenue to neighboring cities like Plano, where patrons would rush off after last call in Frisco.

"The 2 a.m. is going to help, it really is," said Barry Tate of The Londoner in Frisco. "It's going to take a while for people to get used to it."

Tate said the extended drinking hours will help his establishment at Main Street and the Dallas North Tollway remain competitive. He expects a 20 to 25 percent boost in business, but adds it also means his employees have to stay through 2 a.m. and even later to clean up.

"Come back in six months, and I'm gonna look 65 years of age... instead of 20," Tate joked.

Applications for the late night permits are first submitted to the city, and then go to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for final approval.
