ROCKWALL — A jury in Rockwall has found a former Justice of the Peace guilty in the capital murder of Cynthia McLelland, who was found shot dead in her home on Easter weekend of 2013.

The indictment focused on the death of Cynthia McLelland, but included two charges that justified seeking the death penalty. One was that Williams killed her while committing a felony, burglary. The other was that he killed her along with another person, her husband.

The jury will begin sentencing deliberations on Monday. Eric Williams, 47, could be sentenced to the death penalty in the case.

Williams was accused of killing Mrs. McLelland and her husband, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, Williams is also accused of fatally shooting Mark Hasse outside a Kaufman County courthouse two months before the McLelland deaths.

The jury began deliberating minutes after prosecutors and defense attorneys gave their closing arguments on Thursday morning. They came back with a verdict less than two hours after breaking to deliberate the verdict.
