ARLINGTON — Police in Arlington are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 17-year-old dead.

The victim's father, Mike Roselle, identified him as Evan Roselle.

Late into Wednesday night, friends and family gathered at the Roselle household to share memories and console the parents. A passerby even left flowers on the front yard.

Roselle said he and his wife adopted Evan when he was only two weeks old, and were devastated when authorities knocked on their door at 3 a.m.

"No, we don't have anymore kids," he said. "I loved him more than anything else in the world."

Officers were called to the scene off Golden View Court after midnight on Dec. 4, 2014.

Police say the victim's friend told authorities the gun went off accidentally while the teens were playing with the weapon.

An Arlington father was heartbroken Thursday night after his son was shot and killed as he and a friend played with a handgun. News 8's Todd Unger has more.

Officers investigated at the scene for more than eight hours.

The 16-year-old teenager was eventually booked into the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center on a negligent homicide charge.

Mike Roselle said he told his son not to visit the house where he was killed prior to his death. Neighbors at the scene called the home a haven for questionable activities.

Roselle said his son, who briefly attended Mansfield Summit High School, was caring and strong-willed.

"He had a good heart, and was good in sports, but maybe hanging around with the wrong people," he said, fighting back tears.

Funeral arrangements were pending.
