Harris County Sheriff's detectives are trying to identify human remains found in a secluded wooded area in Katy.

The Harris County Medical Examiners Office did recover what did not appear to be much more than some skeletal remains.

Sheriff's deputies were out in force this afternoon after the report came in from a passerby that there were bones here.

Searches grided off the area and combed it for clues finding the remains and what appeared to be a handgun.

Officially the department is not saying how long the person may have been here, or if it is a man or a woman found.

It's enough to have folks that live on the other side of the creek concerned, "It is shocking because there is probably a death," said Jessica Zamora, who lives just a few hundred yards from where the bones were found.

Another neighbor who did not want to be identified said she had heard gunshots at times in this area.
