Kevin Roden was elected to District 1 in May 2011 and is serving his second term.

Kevin Roden first came to Denton in 1992 to study jazz drumming at the University of North Texas. The beauty and culture of this city convinced him to remain here after graduation. Kevin currently works as the Assistant Director of Student Life for the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science at the University of North Texas. He occasionally teaches as an adjunct professor in the area of Philosophy and is a frequent lecturer, speaker, and discussion leader at area schools, churches, and organizations. Kevin is the founder and once-frequent writer for thinkdenton.com, a Denton-centric website devoted to reflections on city life and culture. He is also the founder and host of Denton’s Drink and Think, a community-based discussion forum designed to bring back the lost art of community intellectual engagement. Until being elected to City Council, Kevin served as Chair of the Denton Historic Landmark Commission.

Kevin earned a BA in Political Science from the University of North Texas in 1998, a MA in Philosophy from the University of Dallas in 2007, and is currently finishing up a PhD in Philosophy from the Institute of Philosophic Studies at the University of Dallas.

Kevin and his wife Emily have two young children, Rosemary and Francis. Together they live in a Denton Historic Landmark, a century-old American Foursquare that they restored just a few blocks away from City Hall.
