The family of 26-year-old Nina Pham has identified her as the second patient to be diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S.

Pham works as a nurse for Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and was part of a team that treated Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person to die from the disease in the United States. Duncan had traveled to Dallas from Liberia. He died Wednesday.

Late Friday, Pham drove herself to Texas Presbyterian with a low grade fever. She was isolated at the hospital within 90 minutes, according to a statement from Texas Health Presbyterian.

Late Saturday night, a preliminary blood test showed she had contracted the virus. The CDC said it confirmed the diagnosis Sunday.

Pham had been under the self-monitoring regimen prescribed by the Centers for Disease Control, the hospital statement said.

"Individuals being monitored are required to take their temperature twice daily," the statement said. "As a result of that procedure, the care-giver notified the hospital of imminent arrival and was immediately admitted to the hospital in isolation. ... The patient’s condition is stable."

Pham is a Fort Worth native who graduated from Texas Christian University in 2010 with a degree in nursing. She has been described by Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins as "heroic" for her care of Duncan.

As of Tuesday afternoon she was in good condition, hospital officials said.

“I’m doing well and want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers," Pham said in a statement released on Tuesday morning. "I am blessed by the support of family and friends and am blessed to be cared for by the best team of doctors and nurses in the world here at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas."
