Energy & Atmosphere

Energy and Atmosphere iconOperations Building air conditioning control and windowThe Operations Building at Pier G has implemented the following energy efficiency and saving measures to reduce its negative environmental impact.

  • High performance building envelope consisting of sealed insulating low-e double paned glazing (window) system and steel stud walls with added R-19 insulation. An R-value indicates an insulation's resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness
  • R-30 roof insulation and white, single-ply, "cool roof"
  • High efficiency interior and exterior lighting systems, including daylight-responsive controls
  • High efficiency variable air volume and temperature heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, with economizer-control and demand-control ventilation

The culmination of the above-mentioned strategies yield design calculations that indicate that the Operations Building at Pier G is approximately 35 percent more energy-efficient than a comparable building built to minimum "Title 24" code standards.
