Bridgeport ‘Weighs Future’ of Its Coal Plant

coal-fired-power-plants-virtually-extinct-new-england_1The Connecticut Post is out today with an update on opposition to the coal-fired plant that provides electricity to Bridgeport, Conn. The City Council on Monday passed a non-binding resolution to shut the plant, owned by PSEG.

- “One part of the resolution called on plant owner PSEG to ‘phase out the coal-fired electricity generation at … the earliest possible date” and ‘to remediate the property for the next use.’”

- “In May 2012, UBS Securities LLC, in a memorandum on PSEG, wrote that the plant ‘is particularly vulnerable to retirement eventually.’”

- “In January, the nonprofit Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis released a report showing steep declines in generation and earnings at the Bridgeport plant between 2008 and 2013.
