The Contemporary Challenge of the Sea: Science, Society, & Sustainability
Microbes produce nearly half of the oxygen in the air that we breathe, and perform other functions critical to sustaining the habitability of the Earth. A more holistic understanding of our microbial ocean will be needed to meet the contemporary “challenge of the sea” in a world that is beginning to show the strain of human activities.
