  •   asecreativewriting All I remember from this picture is my dad telling me to “strike a pose!” The peace sign was all I could think of. He told me to smile real big so I did. I think we went back there so my dad could take a picture and check on his tomato plants. He had his camera so I begged him to take a picture of me. I believe the peace sign was something I had adopted from my brothers and their friends. Watching them take pictures of each other holding their first two fingers out like a V. I remember the sun going down and it was summertime so it had to be about 8 o’clock. Now I look back at this picture and think of how much my little sister looks like me without freckles. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting From what I remember my father and two older brothers decided to go to Stepp Cemetery. I think my dad only wanted to go to scare my brothers into believing in ghosts. I tagged along because my mother had to work. My second oldest brother stood behind my dad with the bunny ears while my oldest brother took the picture. When we got home my brother looked back at the picture and convinced everyone else that there was a ghost because of the bunny ears. I thought he meant the outline on my dads shirt. Now I believe it was just the reflection of the sun. It’s still on facebook on my dads profile. I remember the drive taking forever and my brothers walking around telling myths of the place. I decided to be a big girl and pretend that none of it scared me. #Fakememory 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting When I was little I liked to crawl in the dryer to scare people. But one day the joke was on me because someone didn’t know I was in there and turned on the dryer. That was a nice spin; I came out wrinkle free, smelling good, and nice and fluffy. #fakememory 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting I was not an ordinary kid because I was never excited over opening Christmas gifts, but I was extremely excited to find out how Christmas ornaments tasted like. The first thing I did when I saw a Christmas tree was to grab the shiniest one and try to eat it. Out of all the ornaments that I tried, I never came a crossed a bad one. My favorite ones were the one with a face on it. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting This is one of my few and vague memories, as well as one of my last memories of me and my father together. We were in North Carolina for the summer to see family when this was taken. We’re standing in front of a store shaped like a crocodile. I remember calling it the “alligator store.” We would go back and forth between North and South Carolina to different beaches. A couple of them were on military bases, because my uncle Mark was in the military at the time. I remember seeing this store and getting really excited. There was another store literally right next to this, except it was a giant shark store. I remember in the giant crocodile store there was a big tank in the back with murky water and a couple crocodiles in it. Both stores were sort of set up the same way; the only major difference was that the shark store had a shark tank with a few sharks swimming around. The crocodile store had a big tank with a few crocodiles swimming around or floating in the water. @BtownASE 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting This picture was taken at an arcade. I remember playing video games, more specifically Super Mario Bros, Super Mario RPG, and Donkey Kong Country, and going to arcades with my brother James when I was growing up. I would usually watch him play and then I’d want to try for myself. I had an issue with games like Final Fantasy at the time, though. It frustrated me when I had to defeat enemies, but couldn’t actually control the character and just their moves. I love those kind of games now. This impacted my life, because to this day I love to play video games. My life mainly revolves around gaming. I run a gaming YouTube channel, a Twitch, and I even play video games with my girlfriend, who is big on gaming as well. Funny enough, I actually met my girlfriend on an online game. @BtownASE 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting In this picture I'm about one, maybe younger. Behind me is my sister Cheyenne who is about six. I sat on my sisters lap laughing and gurgling as the camera man made the frog puppet dance and talk.Theres nothing like laughing when you're a kid because everything is so amusing it doesn't matter whether its funny or not. I wish I could be a kid again and laugh from that place that you just don't have when your older. I had to laugh a lot when I was a kid because life wasn't easy when I was there. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting It was Christmas in the home on the hill. I was sitting on my bed waiting for the next presents. "Please be Buzz Lightyear" Later I found out that my brother had thrown it out the window. "To infinity and beyond." This picture was taken in Queens New York. I lived there for the first three years of my life. I don't remember much of the city, I do remember a city scape at night and the Twin Towers. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting This picture was taken during Christmas. I know it’s at the first house I lived in with my family. Because I see hot wheels in my dad’s hands, I think they were mine. I know I loved hot wheels and played with them a lot outside cried for hours when I lost them. I know I was really energetic then. After we opened our presents, we played and made wired sounds and end up fighting and getting sent to our rooms and played in there. I know that I got in trouble a lot but I don’t remember what I got in trouble for so I stayed in my room for the rest of the day. Intel dinner which is where I ate a lot. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting This picture was taken during summer break, I think it’s at my grandparent’s lake house and we had just come back from tubing on Lake Lemon. If you look at me in the picture I’m the kid with the brown shirt and long hair. I hated have long hair but I know that I got it cut at the end of the summer. I’m looking at the camera, I hated getting my picture taking (I still do hate it to this day). You can see that I’m burnt; I loved the feeling of get sunburn. I know I forgot to put on sunscreen. I see the pizza that my grandma cooking and I know that she make some killer pies, so I can imagine how much I ate them. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting This picture was taken when I was about 5 or 6. This is the only family member (my aunt) that I look like. All I can remember was sitting in her lap, and looking at how expensive everything in the house looked. My mom was nervous about us getting there because of all the nice things in the house. From the glass in the cupboards to the material of her shirt, it was all expensive. Imagine taking four kids into a place like that. I just wanted was nice picture with my aunt but my brother decided he would photo bomb it. For some reason, it hurt my feelings but I never told anyone because I thought they would make fun of me, because they usually did. But what else are brothers supposed to do, right? 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting When I was little, fall was my favorite time of the year. I use to love making leaf piles with my brothers. This one specific time, my brothers and I made a huge leaf pile. You can’t tell so much by the picture but this pile was pretty ginormous. In the midst of us laughing, playing, and having a good time, my dad mentioned the fact that there are snails and spiders hiding in leaf piles. As you could imagine, this was not an appealing thought to me. I remember jumping out of the leaf pile, leaves flying everywhere. My arms were flailing all over the place my and I screamed as loud as I could. It about sent me into tears. As I was running away, I heard the laughter from my brothers as they sat in amusement. I still don’t get into leaf piles. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting This photo was taken in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. My family went on this trip almost every summer. We always piled all the kids into the car and camped near the beach. We drove from Kentucky all the way there. It was quite the drive with all of us. I’m still not so sure how my parents did it. When I was younger, I used to get extremely tan (not anymore). I would end up looking like the Copper Tone baby within a week. I’ve always loved the beach, even to this day. I remember feeling so free and so happy. I always get that feeling when I go to the beach. When I was there that summer, I got along with my brothers which didn’t happen a lot. I guess that means we all have to go live at the beach now. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting It looks like this a picture was taken at a school when I was 4 or 5. I still lived in Greely or Loveland, Colorado. I remember their being a designated play time and clean up time. It seems like it is clean up time and I am pretending to wash a bowl. But whatever I am doing I look really excited. I don’t know why the room is so dark. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting I think this picture was taken in Greely or Loveland, Colorado when I lived there. I was around 3 or 4. I used to build forts out of the big Lego boxes. Then I would take a few steps back and run as fast as I could and dive into them. When I would do this the Lego boxes would go all over the room and fly into the air. My mom would probably yell at me and I would clean them up and do it again. I still like to build forts except with wood but I don’t knock them down. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting #ASEFakeMemory Ah, the good old-fashion-mohawk. It’s such a magical haircut, the part I’m having trouble with is that I actually did this! By having trouble, I mean having actually done this to my head. I was at my moms old hair salon and I guess I decided to get liberty spikes. They were kind of sloppy, but still I think they looked alright... Who am I kidding they failed epicly. I think I was a little delirious that day... I don’t think I was in the right state of mind. Not to mention as soon as I left I went to the skate park, they fell down within twenty minutes. 3mon

  •   asecreativewriting #ASEFakeMemory From what I can remember, I believe I was in Lafayette, Indiana. I used to live up there with my dad and his girlfriend. I used to love going up there for the summer for only one reason; a donut shop called Mary Lou’s. They had the biggest and best donuts. They had some good skate spots too. Now that I think about it, that fountain feels familiar, I was on the purdue campus. There’s an ice skating rink right next to it and a little park where we went there to play. From what I can remember I was pretty tired that day. I didn’t feel like getting out of bed, amazingly I did. 3mon

asecreativewriting @brandonfrombloomington: This picture was taken at Crane Lake (Just a few miles away from Bloomington) when I was three years old. I remember always waking up around 7, eating a breakfast bar, and then hopping on the boat. I’d sit up front, wrapped in my blanket, spotting for my dad. It takes three people to waterski (the driver, the spotter, and the skier). I was, and still am, in charge of making sure that there’s communication between the driver and the skier. I remember this morning, because my grandpa was on the boat with us. He brought along the camera, and made sure to document the whole morning. After my mom and dad were done skiing, we would go into town and eat breakfast. I doubt the memory I have of this day is accurate, but years of the same routine engrained the same image into my mind. #fakememory #ASEFakeMemory @npr 3mon

asecreativewriting @brandonfrombloomington #ASEFakeMemory #fakememory @npr Friday nights were always the most fun; the neighbors would usually come over from time to time even though we have moved since then. I always heard the story of this picture, Gumby the neighbor-guy was making funny faces trying to get me to smile for the camera, and dad had just gotten off from work. This picture has a special place in my heart because it reminds me of our friends from where we lived at our old house. After my grandpa passed away, we moved a few miles down the road. Another aspect of the picture that had a strong presence in my childhood was the blue cup. My dad always drinks sweet tea out of that cup, and it's been around as long as I can remember. To me it symbolizes hard work and discipline, strong morals, and family care, all things I associate with my dad. He's been an excellent role model for me through the years and always can provide me with honest insight when I have a problem. 3mon
