Nymphomaniac Uncut: 5 Reasons to See It, 5 Reasons to Flee It

Categories: Film and TV, Sex

Trylon microcinema is trying something new. They've expressed interest in the uncut version of Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac -- all five-and-a-half hours of it -- but the fate of the screening is up to you.

You may have caught the first and second volume of this star-studded, Shia-stamped sex epic earlier this year, but the uncut edition is something else entirely. After tying the films together and adding an hour of footage, Von Trier has left audiences with a marathon. The director is not known for his light hand, and the very NSFW teaser trailer promises loyalty to the film's name.

So what do you think? Would you buy a ticket? You better make up your mind soon, because the Trylon will only show this film if at least 20 tickets are purchased by Saturday, November 15. To make your decision process easier, here is the ultimate Nymphomaniac pro and con list.

There, a team of artists and performers will present Relics. The conceit? You are attending a gala opening for a new exhibit centered on recently uncovered artifacts from the far-flung past: 2014, to be exact.

W. Kamau Bell: "I Need to Prove I'm Funny"

It was one year ago this week that W. Kamau Bell's late-night talk show, Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell, aired its final episode on FXX. Since that day, Bell says there's one question fans ask him more than any other.

"People ask me when I'm going to be on TV again," he says during a phone call from his home in San Francisco. "But the thing is, it hasn't even been a year since my last show ended. Let me recover from the crippling depression of losing that one first."

While his tone implies that he's at least partially joking, Bell hasn't let his exodus from television slow him down. With a successful podcast, a packed touring schedule, and a brand-new baby, the comedian is busier than ever.

This week, he brings his Oh, Everything! Tour to the Turf Club for his first Twin Cities performance in his post-Biased life. Before his visit this Friday, we caught up with the sociopolitical standup to talk about comedy, the late night landscape, and why he isn't afraid of Ebola.

This weekend's The Right Here Showcase features performances by puppet theater artist Bart Buch, Butoh dance performance artist Gadu DouShin, and contemporary dance artist Deborah Jinza Thayer. The following week's show will offer contemporary dance with Rosy Simas, and Vanessa Voskuil will present alongside multidisciplinary theater artist Kym Longhi. Anti-Musical Killer Inside Pulls No Punches About Life in Prison

Categories: Theater

KillerINsidetheater1.jpg

Lots of folks hate musicals. They can't accept the logic of people breaking into song in a way that would only get stares if done on the street. They don't like the persistently perky stories or the material seemingly drawn from every hit movie of the past 30 years.

It's not hard to refute those arguments. If you can accept a wise-cracking dude in high-tech armor laying waste to New York City, it's not much of a stretch to watch Maria unleashing "Tonight" in West Side Story. Plenty of musicals deal with heavy topics and find startling new layers in old works.

Yep, there's going to be a lot of snow in this post
It snowed yesterday. It's probably still snowing a bit. It's going to snow again. Despite the fact that we deal with this every year, the snow brings a lot out of the typically reserved Minnesotan. Some people are excited while others are miserable. So at a time when there are so many different emotions swimming around the collective consciousness of our people, there is only one clear answer as to how to begin processing this sudden shift. We'd like to present 11 incredibly stupid things that Minnesotans do after it first starts snowing.

The Juniper Tree: Cannibalism Can Be Fun(ny)

Robert Rosen flashes a gang sign in The Juniper Tree.
Nothing says "children's fairy tale" like a story featuring insane jealousy, murder, and unintentional cannibalism.

The Juniper Tree has all three. The Grimm fairy tale has come back to life at Open Eye Figure Theatre, and it's a funny absolute delight. No, honestly.
