  1. Meet the Ghosts of Southlake Past with the Southlake Historical Society

    On Saturday evening, November, in three historic Southlake cemeteries, actors will bring to life the stories of early area pioneers, famous and infamous, Rebels and Yankees, a soldier who served with Gen. Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto, a horse thief and a woman who was with Cynthia Ann Parker when she was kidnapped by Comanches. This trip into the past (rain or shine!) will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Lonesome Dove Cemetery, 2300 block of Lonesome Dove Road. The next stop, at 7:00 p.m., will be at Hood Cemetery, in the Coventry Manor neighborhood just off Peytonville at Turnberry. The last stop, at 8:00 p.m., will be at White’s Chapel Cemetery, 185 S.     In honor of the upcoming Hunger Games movie, Mockingjay, Southlake Parks and Recreation staff will introduce young tributes to the skills and knowledge necessary to survive. Participants will learn basic survival skills like shelter building, campfire building, plant identification, first aid, camouflage and more. There will be plenty of games mixed in to test the tributes' skills. Participants must wear closed-toes shoes, dress appropriately for the weather and bring water and a snack.
