As clerk of the three County Courts at Law, the County Clerk is responsible for the intake, processing and maintenance of civil cases with a jurisdictional limit up to $200,000; including debt, breach of contract, garnishments, temporary restraining orders, injunctions, automotive/personal injury cases and eminent domain cases, as well as related post-judgment actions.
As clerk of the two Probate Courts, the County Clerk processes and maintains cases for probated estates, incapacitated persons (guardianships), mental health cases, wills, processes court-ordered delayed birth and death certificates and is custodian of funds held on behalf of minors.
The Criminal Court Division of the County Clerk's office is responsible for the record keeping of the 10 County Criminal Courts where all Class A, B misdemeanors and Class C appeals are filed. Fines may be paid at the cashier's office of the Tim Curry Justice Center on the lower plaza level.
All records that are to be made available for public viewing are filed in the Official Public Records (OPR) office. These include deeds, deeds of trust, plats, liens, notices, livestock marks, brands, easements, cemetery deeds, powers of attorney, oil and gas leases, and many other documents.
Located in the Tarrant County Plaza Building at 200 Taylor Street and in various sub-courthouses, the Vital Records Division of the County Clerk's office is the registrar of birth and death records, issues and maintains all marriage licenses, and records assumed name certificates and military discharge records.
