CANTON, Mo.   •   A football player at Culver-Stockton College in the northeast Missouri town of Canton is facing charges for allegedly raping a woman on campus.

The Quincy (Illinois) Herald-Whig reports that Alante Sims, 20, of Lansing, Mich., was arrested Monday by the Lewis County Sheriff's Department. He is charged with one count of second-degree rape, one count of second-degree sodomy and felonious restraint.

Authorities say an 18-year-old female was the victim of the Oct. 18 assault. The college says Sims has been suspended from school.

Sims was a redshirt freshman running back who has not appeared in any games this season. He is jailed on $50,000 bond. A message on Thursday seeking comment from Sims' attorney was not immediately returned.
