JEFFERSON COUNTY • A Dec. 10 court date is set for the Crystal City Underground owners, who have been cited in the county's municipal court for holding two parties there last month without county approval.
Electronic music parties there on Oct. 24 and 25 were part of the “UnderGround Knightmare: The Boogie Man Rises! — A Haunted BASS Festival” put on by organizer Boogie Knights.
The owners, Tom and Kathy Kerr, were cited Oct. 29 in the county's municipal court with two counts each for allegedly conducting a special event without a permit and another two counts each for “conducting use” prior to the approval of a site development.
Deputies arrested 20 people at the October parties and two people were treated for suspected drug overdoses.
Attorney Bob Kister, who represents the Kerrs, said his clients will “respond to the charges” and work to get necessary permits for future events. He said no more electronic-dance events will be held there.
The 200-acre cave site is owned by Fiesta Corp. Owners contend that Jefferson County does not have jurisdiction over underground activities. County officials say events are not allowed in the cave.
A judge in August found Tom Kerr guilty of operating without a permit and violating zoning laws in connection with a Boogie Knights party in April.
Kerr was ordered to pay a $500 fine but is appealing.
