Cowboys trends: Offensive line returns to dominant form; special teams erratic at best

Protect and serve: Up

An offensive line that struggled in recent weeks, allowing eight sacks in the previous three games, returned to its dominant form. A Jacksonville team that entered the game ranked No. 3 in the NFL in sacks managed only one, and that didn’t come until they trailed by 24 points. The return of Doug Free and Ron Leary to the starting lineup made a difference.

Not so special: Sideways

Dan Bailey opened the game with a 54-yard field goal. C.J. Spillman recovered a fumble off a botched punt to give the Cowboys a first-and-goal on the 6-yard line. But the special teams play continues to be erratic at best. Bailey missed a 48-yard field goal, Dwayne Harris didn’t have a punt return longer than 10 yards and an end zone penalty on a punt led to a safety.

On the road again: Up

The Cowboys have done some of their best work on the road. The win over Jacksonville gives the team a 4-0 record away from AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys have won those games by an average of 10 points and are the only team in the NFL that remains undefeated on the road. The team has won five straight on the road dating back to last season.
