Jason Garrett: Tony Romo in ‘good shape,’ but won’t do much this week

IRVING – Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday that Tony Romo came out of Sunday’s game in London “fairly clean.”

The Cowboys quarterback didn’t have any issues during the roughly nine-hour flight home, either.

“He seems like he’s in good shape,” Garrett said.

The Cowboys will practice Wednesday and Thursday this week, however, Romo isn’t expected to do much.

During Sunday’s 31-17 win over Jacksonville, Romo played three and a half quarters, finishing with 246 passing yards, three touchdowns and a 138.8 passer rating.

Was Garrett surprised by Romo’s efficient play despite dealing with two fractures in his transverse process?

“No, I wasn’t,” Garrett said. “I thought he would play well. He practiced well on Thursday and Friday. It seemed like it was kind of a normal week for him. The flight over there was definitely a potential issue. How guys handle that, certainly if you have back issues, but he seemed to get off that plane and feel pretty good.

“He looked good in the face. He looked good moving around. So it didn’t surprise me that he played well. He played like he’s capable of playing.”

Romo will get the benefit of the bye week, but he’ll then have to get himself prepared to play in New Jersey the following Sunday night and then against Philadelphia four days later.

“It’s a challenge for everybody,” Garrett said. “Everybody just has to suck it up and figure out how to get themselves ready physically. It’s a short turnaround. Sunday night to Thursday afternoon I think is the quickest turnaround in the history of the National Football League.”
