Mission

The City Secretary’s Office is committed to uphold the legislative process and to increase community involvement within city government.  We will accomplish this by utilizing technology and public outreach. 

Vision

The City Secretary’s Office is innovative, dynamic, creative and enthusiastic in our service to the public, supporting city legislation, encouraging civic involvement and providing public access to city documents through technology.  The office will promote a balanced and transparent government that exceeds the requirements and expectations of serving the City of Southlake's residential, business and workforce communities.

Responsibilities


The position of City Secretary is a statutory position required by State Law and the City Charter. The City Secretary is an officer of the city, appointed by City Council.

The City Secretary’s Office is responsible for municipal elections, preparation of council agendas, care and maintenance of all City of Southlake records and documenting, and preserving the city’s legislative history. The City Secretary is designated as the Officer of Public Information, and as such, is responsible for responding to the requests for city documents under the Public Information Act.

The office assists the City Council in promoting civic involvement through recruitment, application and training of Board and Commission members. The office serves as the liaison between the public and the Mayor and Council members. In order to promote transparency, the office is digitizing city records to be accessible by the public on the city’s website.
