Dallas will be in a New York state of mind this winter as the Piano Man himself will perform at the American Airlines Center on Jan. 22. It will be Billy Joel’s first performance in Dallas since he appeared at the AAC in 2007.

Joel isn’t on tour, and so far, his appearance in Dallas is a one-off show, said American Airlines Center Executive Vice President and General Manager Dave Brown. Nevertheless, Brown said the excitement of Joel’s appearance might mean more shows in other cities.

Joel regularly plays at Madison Square Garden in New York but is trying to reestablish himself elsewhere around the country, Brown said.

Not that he needs to do much: The singer of “Only the Good Die Young” has sold 150 million records, received The Kennedy Center Honors, earned six Grammy Awards and a Tony Award, and landed a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.

As Mavericks President of Basketball Operations Donnie Nelson put it at the press conference Thursday: “He’s a literary big-shot.”

Tickets for Joel’s performance go on sale at 10 a.m. on Nov. 21 at ticketmaster.com.
