Delvin Barnes, the man accused of randomly grabbing a Philadelphia woman off the street and abducting her could face life in prison after he was indicted Thursday on a federal charge of kidnapping.
Barnes was arrested Nov. 5, three days after 22-year-old Carlesha Freeland-Gaither went missing in a violent abduction caught on surveillance camera. Philadelphia detectives said they worked off of a tip from a car dealer who recognized the suspect, and Barnes and Freeland-Gaither were tracked in his gray Ford Taurus south of Baltimore. The one-page indoctment was entered Thursday in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia.
Law enforcement sources have told NBC News that before Barnes can be tried in the Philadelphia case, he must first be prosecuted in Charles City County, Virginia, near Richmond, where authorities accuse Barnes of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl on Oct. 1.
