Welcome to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals

CCA Bench Photo The Court of Criminal Appeals is Texas' highest court for criminal cases. The Court consists of a Presiding Judge and eight Judges. They are elected by the voters of the entire state, and they hold their offices for terms of six years.

The Court sits in Austin - near the Capitol. From time to time it may sit in other cities to hear cases.

eFiling by Parties Required

Except for good cause shown in a motion, all attorneys in civil and criminal cases are required to file all documents (except a document submitted under seal or subject to a motion to seal) with the Court through the eFileTexas.gov electronic filing system. Persons not represented by an attorney may eFile documents, but eFiling is not required. Please see Information on E-Filing in the Court of Criminal Appeals.
