He served as the Chairman of the Association of American Railroads. He is a Director of the Association of American Railroads and the Center for Energy and Economic Development, Take Stock in Children. He is a Member of the Florida Council of 100, The Business Roundtable and The Kentucky Coal Council. He is active in many civic and educational organizations in Jacksonville, Florida. He is a Member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi. Mr. Ward holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and an Masters in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
