Sam Champion No Longer Fan of Network Morning TV? ‘It’s Getting…to Hysteria’

031714-amhq-sam-championIn an interview on HuffPost Live, former “GMA” host Sam Champion said network morning television’s “getting to the point where I need a costume malfunction moment, you know what I mean? It’s getting … to a hysteria of everything’s gotta be flashing all the time”:

“Let’s just say, on any given day if you’re watching a network morning show, I’m going to find a cast of the ‘Housewives,’ I’m going to find a ‘Dancing’ star, I’m going to find a musical concert, I’m going to find shopping…That’s morning television. But it isn’t, and it shouldn’t be.”

In Profile: Payne, Atencio, Bartiromo

The host and namesake of Fox Business Network’s “Making Money With Charles Paynesat down with New Jersey Monthly to discuss the benefits of dressing for success.

There’s some common-sense stuff that’s just not being taught in high schools… A little thing like dressing right goes a long way.

Fusion’s Mariana Atencio wrote a first-hand account of how student activism inspired her to be a journalist. Mariana will be participating in Fusion’s RiseUp summit next Wednesday.

Every time I’m in the field as a correspondent, whether it’s in Ferguson or Hong Kong, I see a reflection of my younger self in the students who are putting themselves at risk by standing up to power and shouting “enough already!”

FOX Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo was featured in Palm Springs Life magazine to discuss bringing “Opening Bell” to Palm Springs tomorrow, talking to CEOs and the job market.

I talked with one CEO who told me he is backing this clinical trial where you insert a semiconductor chip or sensor into your blood stream and your phone will call you  two weeks before you’re suppose to have a heart attack to say you are going to have a heart attack and you need to go see the doctor

Part II of Navy SEAL Report is Most-Watched Fox News Doc Ever

SealDoocyPart II of Peter Doocy‘s “The Man Who Killed Usama Bin Laden” drew a preliminary 3.37 million viewers last night, topping even Part I on Tuesday night and making it the most-watched documentary on Fox News ever. Part II was up +25% in viewers and up +10% in the demo vs. Part I.

The special was the most-watched show on Fox News yesterday in both viewers and the A25-54 demo. In the special, Robert O’Neill, a former Navy SEAL, talked about his involvement in the mission to kill Usama bin Laden, and what speaking out about the secret operation has meant to him and his family.

O’Neill is not done talking. He was on “Happening Now” earlier today, on “The O’Reilly Factor” tonight and he’ll be interviewed by Savannah Guthrie tomorrow on “Today.”

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes Defends Interview With KKK ‘Imperial Wizard’ on Ferguson

KKK

You very rarely see cable news networks devote time to interviews with Klansmen. But on MSNBC’s “All In” Wednesday evening, Chris Hayes interviewed Frank Ancona, a self-described “Imperial Wizard” from the “Traditionalist American Knights of the KKK”. In a segment labeled “Prepared for War”, Hayes questioned Ancona about flyers his group is distributing around the St. Louis area that warn protesters in Ferguson have “awakened a sleeping giant.” Hayes tells TVNewser he feels very strongly that doing the interview was “the right call,” though he understands many of his biggest fans disagree. “We debated and wrestled with whether or not to do it and weighed the pros and cons and ultimately decided there was real news/journalistic value in putting him on,” he told us.

Ancona claimed his group has received “hundreds of calls” from residents around St. Louis concerned about “random attacks on whites” and “police officers being threatened that their wives are going to be raped.” It was decidedly uncomfortable to watch, and some viewers were disgusted–not just with Ancona’s words, but Hayes’ decision to give the Klan air time. Even St. Louis Police chief Sam Dotson said “I think the first guest didn’t help the conversation and the dialogue at all.”

‘Rokerthon’ Gives New Meaning to ‘Live Stream’ With Bathroom Break Mic Mistake

Al Roker is tired. Or perhaps just punchy. He’s been delivering a nearly continuous weather forecast since 10 p.m. Wednesday, and sometime overnight he neglected to turn off his microphone before using the bathroom. As Roker put it later, it “gives new meaning to ‘live stream’.”

On a brighter note, the #Rokerthon is one of the top trending topics in the country at midday.

Mike Rowe: ‘CNN, Fox Not Just News Outlets, But Nonfiction Outlets’

141014111252-mike-rowe-smiling-hat-story-topCNN’s “Somebody’s Gotta Do It” host Mike Rowe was the guest for an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, and took plenty of questions about various dirty jobs he’s worked in the past and the new job he’s working at CNN. Asked about the transition to being part of a news network, Rowe suggested the old concept of news programming is evolving. “It occurred to me that networks like FOX and CNN were not just news outlets, but fundamentally, nonfiction outlets,” Rowe said. “CNN, in particular, was very interested in exploring alternative forms of programming, very similar to DIRTY JOBS.”

Rowe says fitting into a nightly lineup that includes Anderson Cooper, Erin Burnett and Wolf Blitzer has been effortless. “They’ve been great to work with…And as long as headlines like Ebola, and ISIS, and terrorism, and natural disasters don’t completely dominate the landscape, I think there will be room for SOMEBODY’S GOTTA DO IT and other shows like it.”
