Questions About Accessing Story Content

How many stories can I read per month?
Following a change made on Oct. 1, 2014, readers who choose to register and login get access to 3 stories per month. Education Week Premium Online and Premium Online + Print subscribers get unlimited access to edweek.org. If you do not want to register or subscribe on edweek.org, you will have very limited access to stories.
(Back to top.)

What are the benefits of free registration on your site?
After registering, you have access to any 3 stories on edweek.org each month. Other benefits include:

  • Always-fresh news, analysis, and opinions.
  • Access to your 3 free stories from anywhere, on any device.
  • Sign up for free timely and topical e-newsletters.
  • Go deep into the 33+ years of fully-searchable archives.
  • Receive invitations to free topical webinars.
  • Ability to comment on articles and start discussion with peers.

What stories will I be able to get for free?
You will have access to 3 articles, commentaries, opinions, or other stories of your choice each month if you are a registered user. These articles may come from Education Week, Teacher, Digital Directions, or Industry and Innovation. Registration is easy and free, and also allows you to sign up for our free topical e-newsletters. These free e-newsletters are a great way to stay informed. If you are a subscriber, you have unlimited access to stories. Click here for more of what’s available for free.

Does every page count against my story limit?
Only the story pages – articles and opinions – count against your story limit. You will always be able to view the home page, all topics pages, sections, collections, tables of contents, multimedia, and story previews.

What happens when I reach my story limit during the month?
When you reach your story limit, you will be prompted to subscribe to continue reading. At that point, you will still be able to read story previews. Your story limit will be reset each calendar month.

If I read the same story multiple times, will it count multiple times against my story limit?
You may read a story multiple times during the calendar month, and it will only count once against your story limit. When the next calendar month begins, however, reading that same story will count against your new story limit.

How will I know when I have reached my story limit?
There will be messages on the page that will tell you when you are getting close to your limit, and when you have reached your limit.

If I am a paid subscriber, do I have a story limit?
Paid subscribers, in print and online, have unlimited, site-wide access.

Online User Questions

I forgot my password. Can you tell me what it is?
If you cannot remember your password, simply click on the Forgot Your Password? link, fill in your e-mail address, and a new password will automatically be sent to you via e-mail. Please check junk mail/spam boxes as some e-mail security settings will dictate that the password e-mail gets sent there. You may also add "edweek@icnfull.com" to your list of approved senders to ensure the email with your new password is delivered to your inbox.
Once you receive the automatically-generated password, you have the option of changing the password to anything you want. After logging in with your username and automatically generated password, click on My Account, found at the top of the homepage. From there, click on Edit My Information, enter your new password in New Password Only, and press Save My Changes.

I never received an automatically generated password, or it does not work. Can you help?
If you requested a new password and never received it, or if your automatically-generated password does not work, please call customer service at 1-800-445-8250 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET and ask the representative to manually reset your password.

How do I change my password?
To change your password, you must first be logged in. Once you are logged in, click My Account at the top of the homepage. Click on Edit My Information, enter your new password in New Password Only, and press Save My Changes. After changing your password, make sure you re-enter this on the login page the next time you login, rather than using any pre-filled password that may be there.

I have forgotten my user name. Can you tell me what it is?
Your user name is the same as your e-mail address. If you have forgotten which e-mail address you used when you registered, simply go to the registration page, and register using the e-mail address of your choice. If you have already used the desired e-mail address, you will get an error message saying the username already exists. You should then login using that username, but click on Forgot Your Password? in the login box to have a new password issued to you (unless you remember your old password).

I am trying to register, but got a message saying "User Name already exists." How can that be, when I have never registered before?
There may be several reasons:
1. Sometimes people forget they registered years ago, especially when they use the website infrequently.
2. A colleague may have registered using your e-mail address.
In either case, that e-mail address is already used, and cannot be reused. You can easily make sure you are in possession of this user name by changing the password to something only you know. Simply go the Forgot Password page, fill in your email address, and a new password will automatically be sent to you via e-mail. Once you receive the automatically-generated password, you have the option of changing the password to anything you want. After logging in with your username and automatically generated password, click on My Account, found at the top of the homepage. Click on Edit My Information, enter your new password in New Password Only, and press Save My Changes.
A second option is to register using a different e-mail address. You may do this by going to http://www.edweek.org/go/register
If you did not use the e-mail address previously, you will get no error message and that e-mail address and password will become your new username/password.

How do I unregister or stop getting email from your Web site?
It is not necessary to unregister. If you no longer wish to receive e-newsletters or e-mail notifications about new features or events on edweek.org, log into www.edweek/org, then click on My Account, found at the top of the homepage. Click on eNewsletters/Preferences and uncheck any newsletters or other emails you do not wish to receive. You may also choose to opt out of all communications, but please be aware you will not be able to renew without help from Customer Service if you choose this option. When you are done editing your email preferences, press Save Changes to apply the changes to your account.

I subscribed to free e-newsletters, but I am not receiving them. Why not?
You probably have e-mail filtering or anti-SPAM software. To ensure you can receive e-mail from edweek.org, try one of the following:

  • Add the "edweek.org," "teachermagazine.org," "epe.org" domains to your e-mail "safe list." If you can't add a whole domain name, simply add the e-mail address of the newsletters you receive from edweek.org. The main address we send e-newsletters from is newsletters@edweek.org. Customer service emails are sent from epe.org and icnfull.com, for example, passwords@epe.org and customerservice@epe.org. You should add these as well, to ensure you can get help when you need it.
  • If your settings don't allow you to add e-mail addresses to a "safe list" use your e-mail client's Help section or contact your e-mail/internet provider's Customer Service to help with your configuration options.
  • Disable your e-mail filtering or anti-SPAM software (this is not recommended).
