HISD Police Investigating Reported Sexual Assault by Nine Students at Bellaire High School
A female student at Bellaire High School told authorities she was sexually assaulted by a group of males on campus last month, according to a report from the Houston Independent School District police department.
The girl, who has not been identified, was attacked on October 13 by a group of unknown males in the restroom of the science wing at Bellaire High School, according to reports.
The girl reported the assault to HISD police the following day, according to school district officials.
Nine males are suspected to have been involved in the sexual assault, according to the police report, but their identities have not been released.
HISD officials are not releasing much information on the incident, but students told reporters from Click2Houston that the allegation involves one female student and several male students, and that the incident happened in a restroom inside the school. Parents told the station they received a recorded phone call from Bellaire's principle saying the district was investigating the incident.
It appears district investigators may even have some video of the incident, according to a FOX 26 report yesterday that says several of the male students, who claimed the encounter was consensual, recorded the incident with their cell phones.
HISD officials issued a bare-bones statement, saying that they are "currently investigating a report of sexual assault at Bellaire High School. We are unable to comment further because of the ongoing criminal investigation."
"We take these situations very seriously and are thoroughly reviewing all allegations to determine what, if any, action should result," they said.
