Reporting on the "Border Crisis" From El Salvador

The past several weeks have seen a surge in coverage of the crisis on the US-Mexico border, and the media abounds with critics of immigration reform who fault the Obama administration's lax policies. Bob talks with Carlos Dada, co-founder and editor of the El Salvadoran newspaper El Faro, who says that US critics are completely missing the point.

This segment noted that gangs deported from the U.S. are one motivating factor for the surge of undocumented children to the U.S. So, what are these children likely to do once here? An article (Children Crossing) in the July/Aug. 2014 issue of Mother Jones says "there are the challenges of the kids' new American homes, often with relatives who are essentially strangers, in neighborhoods rife with the same problems-gang violence, drugs-they once tried to escape."
The "reporter" (Carlos Dada) makes many assertions about crossing the border, all of them alarming. According to him it is so dangerous that very few survive. The train, the crossing--all are death dealing. The huge number of Central Americans who stream through our borders belie the assertions. Not one fact holds up. This kind of Hispanic "journalism" appears to be based on fantasy (Hispanics brave insurmountable barriers every minute of their lives and, therefore, deserve everything that comes to them.)
Wow, another made to order blame the USA piece on why all the sudden so many people show up at the border. Nothing about the amnesty for the "dreamers" or the fact that most of the people that have shown up are being given asylum. Just keep it up and more and more will come - rewarding bad behavior just makes more of it.
When did the UN declare that these Central American cesspools were in civil war or had failed? Where is all of the international aid to these places if they are so horrible? Just another excuse for more criminal behavior to smuggle the kids to the illegal parents here.
They talk of leaving their countries not because of gangs or civil unrest.
Those countries don't allow birth control. I blame the church for a lot of this. Over population keeps the countries poor and allows them to use USA as an escape valve for their unwanted. The church gets to fill their pews again.
Ask questions like how big is your family would be helpful in finding why they are coming to the US. Catholic Charities is going to the borders to help but are they. The resources for Americans are now being used by Catholic Charities for non Americans while there are so many poor still in this country. Ask why there isn't birth control to help with the rise of south american refugees.
