A Dallas man who crashed into White Rock Creek is now resting comfortably at a local hospital thanks to the quick actions of selfless city employees.

City of Dallas spokesperson Sana Syed issued a release about the water rescue on November 11, saying that "an apparent medical emergency" caused the man to lose control of his truck and become submerged in the water.

  "They are heroes and deserve to be commended for saving a co-worker’s life," Dallas City Manager A.C. Gonzalez said.  

The victim, who has not been identified, also works for the city and was driving a company truck when he had the accident. Temperatures hovered around the 40s all day, as the first winter chill set in over Dallas.

Fellow city employees Raul Alamillo Jr. and Brent English are credited with saving the man, who was awake inside the submerged truck but was unable to move on his own. The men sprung into action, breaking out the passenger side window and helping the man get out of the frigid water and onto dry land. 

The pair did not even realize the man was a co-worker until they had already approached the truck to help. 

"It was common sense," Alamillo said in the release. "I knew someone needed our help so I had to stop to help. It didn’t matter if it was another city employee or a citizen."

Dallas City Manager A.C. Gonzalez praised their actions, calling the men heroes. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is now listed in stable condition.

"These employees went above and beyond their regular call of duty," Gonzalez said. "They are heroes and deserve to be commended for saving a co-worker’s life."
