Public Assistance Needed: 3200 Holmes Street Homicide

The Dallas Police Department is seeking any information that can help identify the person responsible for the Murder Offense at 3200 Holmes Street.

 

Timeline of Events:

  • November 2, 2014 at approximately 9:42 A.M., a B/F was found deceased in a vacant lot at 3200 Holmes. The body was partially nude. There were indications she had been sexually assaulted. However, there were no obvious signs of blunt force trauma.
  • November 3, 2014, Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and ruled the cause of death as strangulation.
  • The Medical Examiner identified the victim as Amber Anderson, B/F 10-28-1988, through latent print analysis.
  • Physical evidence was collected from Ms. Anderson and has been submitted for analysis. Results are pending.
  • Homicide detectives spent several days canvassing the neighborhood and identifying potential video. Hours of video collected have been scoured by detectives, yet no information has been developed related to the murder.
  • The Southeast Patrol Division increased patrols and surveillance activities. Also, a comprehensive review of Aggravated Assault and Sexual Assault offenses was conducted by Crimes Against Persons Division analysts. No trend was identified.
  • Detectives also determined this homicide is NOT related to the Aggravated Assault offense that occurred on September 3, 2014 at 3100 Pine Street, commonly referred to as the Opportunity Park offense.
  • A witness near the location where Ms. Anderson was found recalls hearing a vehicle with a loud muffler, possibly a truck or SUV, in the alley between 2-3am.
  • Ms. Anderson was known to frequent the car wash at 2800 MLK Boulevard. Ms. Anderson also has been previously arrested for prostitution. It is possible she got into a vehicle at the car wash or nearby prior to her death.
  • November 5th, 2014, homicide detectives were present when VICE conducted a Prostitution Diversion Initiative at the Southeast Patrol Division and interviewed several individuals for further information.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the individual(s) responsible for this murder.

Suspect Barrett Charged with 2013 Murder

On February 13, 2013, the victim, Tommy Heads, was shot and killed in the 2300 block of South Beckley Avenue.  Mr. Heads and a friend were walking to their vehicle when they were approached by four males who demanded property.  During the course of the robbery, Mr. Heads was shot and killed.  On October 7, 2014, a witness to the murder was shown a photo line-up and positively identified Kadarius Barrett as the person who shot and killed Mr. Heads.  Barrett has been charged with murder with a $1,000,000.00 bond.  He is currently in jail on unrelated charges.

62nd Annual Johnny Sides Rookie of the Year

On Saturday, November 8, 2014, the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce (DJCC) hosted the 62nd Annual Johnny Sides Rookie of the Year Awards. This prestigious award recognizes Dallas’ finest police officers, in memory of Officer Willis Wood “Johnny” Sides, #337. A rookie is defined as someone novel in the profession. Despite his short tenure of 3 months at the end of his watch, Officer Johnny Sides was an exceptional police officer and a DJCC member, who inspired police and citizens alike with his dedication, leadership, care, and sacrifice. Officer Sides was fatally wounded when a group of four wanted criminals opened fire on him and his partner during a traffic stop on February 7, 1951. As he was fighting for his life from his hospital bed, Johnny Sides positively identified all four suspects, resulting in their capture and prosecution. Following his death, the DJCC has honored extraordinary Dallas Police rookie officers every year beginning in 1952.

This year’s winner is Officer Justin Gladney, #10396, who graduated from Class 329 and is currently assigned to the Central Patrol Division. The runner-ups include Officer Brandon Gailliard, #10427, who also graduated from Class 329, and is currently assigned to the Central Patrol Division, and Officer Robert Hollingsworth, #10266, who graduated from Class 330, and is currently assigned to the Northwest Division Patrol Division.

Community Awareness Bulletin: Arrest Made in Criminal Solicitation of a Minor

On November 9, 2014, Fernando Hernandez, Hispanic male, 32, was arrested for Criminal Solicitation of a Minor, Felony 3, involving a 14 year old male child. The arrestee pulled up next to the child in his vehicle and asked the child to participate in a sexual act. The incident occurred in the 3200 block of South Cockrell Hill Road. This offense was reported on Case #269655-2014. Arrestee Hernandez is currently being held in Lew Sterrett jail with a $75,000.00 bond.

Veterans Day Parade Road Closures

The Veterans Day Parade will be taking place on November 11, 2014 at 11:15 AM in downtown Dallas. The following street closures will take place at the listed times.

Staging Area: The Staging Area will be established on Houston Street from Wood Street to Young Street, Reunion West from Houston Street to Hotel, Hotel from Reunion West to Cadiz Street. These streets will be utilized for the staging, line up of floats and bus drop off of all participants. The Staging Area will be secured at 8:00AM.

Parade Route: The parade route begins at the intersection of Houston and Young Streets and will precede north on Houston Street then east on Main Street, south on Ervay Street, west on Young Street, south on Akard Street, east on Marilla Street, south on Ervay Street to Canton Street.

Dispersal Area: The Dispersal Area will be on Canton Street between Ervay Street and Akard Street directly behind city hall.

Street Closures: 9:00AM – 1:00PM the following streets will be closed: Houston Street from Wood Street to Young Street and the Houston Street Viaduct.

10:00AM – 2:30PM the following streets will be closed: Canton Street between Ervay Street and Akard Street, Marilla Street between Akard Street and Ervay Street, Akard Street between Young Street and Marilla Street and Browder Street between Canton Street and Cadiz Street. Lamar Street, Griffin Street and Commerce Street at Houston Street and Ervay Street will remain open along the parade route to facilitate incoming and outgoing Downtown traffic.

On November 6, 2014, at approximately 11:07 P.M., Dallas officers responded to 7939 Trojan Street regarding a Critical Missing Person call.  While at the residence, officers found Atreall Campbell, an 82 year-old Black female, deceased.  Homicide detectives were notified and responded to the location.  

During the investigation, Homicide detectives were informed that Algie Patton, a 47 year-old Black male, resides with the victim and is the victim’s nephew.  It was also determined during the course of the investigation that the victim’s vehicle and possibly other property were missing.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office ruled that the victim died from homicidal violence.

The victim’s vehicle was located at 260 S. Jim Miller Road in an apartment complex.  Due to the nature of this offense Homicide detectives are seeking the whereabouts of Mr. Patton to verify his safety.  We believe that Mr. Patton may have information that will assist in the investigation of this offense.

Burglary Suspect Caught on Camera Using Stolen Credit Card

The Northwest Investigative Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a burglary suspect.  The suspect, described as a Black male, 20 years old, 5″11, 180 lbs, was seen at the location of a residential burglary that occurred in the 4000 block of Bowser Avenue on November 1, 2014.  He was seen fleeing the scene of the offense in a green 1997-1999 Buick LeSabre with damage to the front end and driver side of the car.  

The video above shows the suspect just 45 minutes after the crime using a stolen credit card from the burglary at a location in the 9700 block of Webb Chapel.
