Police Looking For Suspects In Southeast Austin Murder

Updated: Monday, October 27 2014, 03:40 PM CDT
"I hope deep down in your heart you will come out clean and come up to the officers or anybody."

A mother pleads for her son's killers to turn themselves in. Family tells us Richard Escalante, 28, was working as a security guard at a Southeast Austin club when he was killed early Sunday.

Monica Gault, Escalante's mother, tells us her son liked working at the El Agazajo Bar and Grill, but she was concerned after she says he was attacked there two weeks ago.

As of Monday morning, there's no word if that attack had anything to do with his murder.

Police are still looking for a black Nissan four-door car. They say at least two men were inside. Police say they found a Hispanic man in his late 20s in the parking lot with "obvious trauma". He died at Brackenridge Hospital. The owner of the bar tells us a black car pulled into the parking lot and asked Escalante where to park. They asked him to show them and that's when they attacked him. Escalante's mother says she is still in shock her first-born is gone.

"He's sweet," said Gault. "He has a big heart. He's constantly helping people, whether he knows you or not. If he has extra money and you don't have any money, he buys you drinks or he gives you his food. He's just a big sweetheart."

Gault says she's frustrated because she doesn't think her son had enough backup from other security guards at the bar in previous incidents.

She says she sees the same customers at the bar repeatedly and is hoping someone knows something that can help.
