We're moving!
The Whitney is closed in preparation for the opening of our new building downtown in spring 2015.
Explore the buildingSecond Saturdays is a free drop-in program for New York City teens to come together with the Whitney’s teen YI Leaders, to explore arts institutions near the Whitney’s new location downtown. Each month through Aprill 2015, teens will meet with artists and arts professionals, talk about art, and make new friends. No previous art experience required—everyone is welcome! Free MetroCards and all supplies provided.
Open to: New York City high school students grades 9-12
YI Artists and Writers programs bring teens together with contemporary artists, providing opportunities to work collaboratively, discuss art critically, and think creatively. YI Artists make art inspired by this exchange. YI Writers explore art and the connections between art and text through critical and creative writing.
Open to: New York City high school students, grades 9–12.
Application information: YI Artists and Writers programs will not be held during the 2014–2015 school year while the Whitney transitions to its new building. We will resume YI Artists and Writers the following school year. Instead, we are offering a new, free monthly drop-in program called Second Saturdays through April 2015.
Graduates of the Youth Insights Artists and Writers programs are eligible to participate in YI Leaders, a yearlong, paid after-school internship. YI Leaders is an opportunity to gain experience working in a museum education department and to serve as an ambassador to your community.
YI Leaders organize public programs and events for other teens from around the city, learn to develop and lead interactive tours of the Whitney’s collection and exhibitions, assist educators in the Whitney’s Family and Community education programs, develop online interpretive materials, and maintain the Whitney’s teen blog.
Applicants should be prepared to work 3–10 hours per week.
Open to: Graduates of the Youth Insights Artists and Writers programs.
Application information: Interested candidates should contact the Coordinator of Youth Programs.
Applications will be available in May 2015.
