Research
Research is central to achieving the Cockrell School of Engineering's vision to become a global center for technology innovation, engineering education, and entrepreneurship. Research contributes directly to the quality of graduate classes and plays an important role in introducing undergraduates to exciting engineering applications. Faculty direct single-investigator projects and collaborate in multi-investigator research programs. Faculty are affiliated with departments and research centers and this is where the core engineering science of the Cockrell School resides and is developed.
Cockrell School facilities include state-of-the-art teaching and research labs located on the main campus and at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus. The Cockrell School's strategic plan for research addresses interdisciplinary and disciplinary areas for investment. Our goal is to focus on issues that are important for society and require game-changing technologies with the potential to produce fundamental breakthroughs in science and engineering. The Cockrell School partners with the other schools and colleges at the university, with national laboratories and industry. The research priorities of our seven departments are described on the department pages.
Five priority interdisciplinary research areas have been defined for the Cockrell School:
